This full-time position is responsible for providing engineering, systems, and desktop support to all end-users and IT staff in a Windows 7 environment. The Network Systems Administrator also advises and assists the IT Manager with the maintenance/upgrade of servers, desktop computers, communication systems, switches, routers, WAPs

Essential Duties and Functions:

Technical Support

  • Provide Tier 1 and 2 support for the I.T. Dept.
  • Support includes working general Helpdesk tasks as well as System Administrator tasks.
  • Assist in managing virtual environment
  • Setup and maintain Shoretel Telephone system
  • Assist with maintaining web, app, OS, network and physical security for users and systems
  • Identify and plan needed maintenance/improvements/upgrades to systems and network
  • Help develop and enforce IT policies/procedures consistent with industry best practices
  • Maintaining Windows 2008 and 2012 Servers
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of IT processes
  • Provide short seminars to staff on how to use applications
  • Work with IT Manager and IT Director on company-wide initiatives
  • Maintain and manage the server backup processes
  • Escalate local issues to appropriate staff as needed
  • Coordinate and execute staff relocations
  • Update technical knowledgebase and maintain technical certifications
  • Keep track of IT inventory and equipment orders
  • Audio visual setup and training
  • Conduct new-user IT orientations
  • Support Microsoft desktop applications
  • Install and manage Windows 7 based computers
  • Manage various user accounts
  • Support users by phone, e-mail, and in-person
  • Works on small to large, complex assignments
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Maintain a clean, healthy, and sanitary work area; follow all pest and rodent control protocols. Participate in keeping the SF SPCA campus clean and well maintained

Reporting Relationships and Contacts:

Reports to the IT Manager

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly sits at computer stations and operates electronic equipment to ensure system operations
  • Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds when maintaining electronic hardware and setting up equipment
  • Frequently crawls under desks to connect wires and move hardware
  • Typically stands, bends, stoops and crouches to adjust equipment
  • Regularly moves about the campus to problem solve
  • Frequent evening work to ensure system operations
  • Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alterations available

Education and Experience:

  • High School degree, college related to computer science or certification courses
  • Prefer at least 5 years of experience in a real world computer production environment required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the San Francisco SPCA
  • Extensive experience working in a Microsoft networked environment
  • Knowledge of network administration functions.
  • Knowledge of Windows Active Directory (including DHCP, TCP/IP, DNS, and Domain Schemes is preferred but not necessary), Exchange, Antivirus, Internet Explorer, Firefox and other browsers
  • Experience in supporting and troubleshooting All production versions of Windows Desktop, Server, and Exchange
  • Demonstrated skill in diagnosing and troubleshooting computer hardware
  • Demonstrated experience installing computers, printers, peripherals, and software
  • Ability to instruct users on how to use hardware and software
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 applications
  • Experience with Adobe applications
  • Experience with small and large format printing processes
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional, patient and friendly manner
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non- technical personnel alike



Salary and Benefits:

The starting salary for this position depends on the length and breadth of experience.
